This is a REAL Stag Beetle electroformed in copper with a genuine Black Obsidian teardrop gemstone inlayed. This hangs from a copper chain and measures approx. 2.5" in height.
*All specimens have been Ethically and responsibly sourced from either observatories, farms or museums in which all died naturally and have been preserved with respect and care. No animals or insects are poached or killed for my art. I simply preserve their beauty to be admired for years to come.
What is Electroforming?
Electroforming is a chemical/electrical process in which metal, in this case copper, is deposited onto a material that has been coated in a conductive paint. The piece is submerged in a chemical bath, hooked up to an electrical current and is plated. This is a tedious and fickle process that requires a lot of trial and error to perfect. It encases organic and otherwise fragile materials in metal forever, making them sturdy and wearable. This piece has then been given a patina to make it look like a more antique piece. These are wearable art!
Copper can oxidize over time causing them to turn green. I have sealed the finished pieces to prevent this. You can take measures to protect your jewelry by keeping it dry, wearing it against dry skin, and storing in a cool, dry place. If oxidation does occur you can buff the piece with a soft cloth to clean it up.
