Gorgeous genuine coffin shaped Black Obsidian gemstone Electroformed in copper on the backside and hoop to make sturdy. Measures approx. 2-3" in height and hangs from a copper chain.
What is Electroforming?
Electroforming is a chemical/electrical process in which metal, in this case copper, is deposited onto a material that has been coated in a conductive paint. The piece is submerged in a chemical bath, hooked up to an electrical current and is plated. This is a tedious and fickle process that requires a lot of trial and error to perfect. It encases organic and otherwise fragile materials in metal forever, making them sturdy and wearable. This piece has then been given a patina to make it look like a more antique piece. These are wearable art!
Copper can oxidize over time causing them to turn green. I have sealed the finished pieces to prevent this. You can take measures to protect your jewelry by keeping it dry, wearing it against dry skin, and storing in a cool, dry place. If oxidation does occur you can buff the piece with a soft cloth to clean it up.
